Oversized Bearings Matter

It is a well-documented fact that across all industries and manufacturers, bearing failures are the most common cause for electric motor downtime, repair and replacement costs.  So, it may surprise you to know that many motor manufacturers cut costs by utilizing smaller, weaker bearings (especially on ODE), which makes the motor vulnerable to bearing failure sooner.  Not, Elektrim Performance Series motors.  Our Performance Series motors come equipped with oversized bearings on both ends to help extend its mechanical life for longer, uninterrupted operation.

As the only moving part of a motor, bearings are subjected to an enormous amount of friction and vibration over time.  Smaller bearings will naturally wear-out sooner as a result of this material friction, and will need replacement faster than motors like Elektrim, which utilize stronger, bigger bearings on both drive ends to fortify the motor, and automatically extend its life against regular bearing wear and tear.  

 

Moreover, oversized bearings on both drive ends increase the mounting flexibility of your motor by making the motor more suitable for either horizontal or vertical operation.  Motors that operate vertically require that a single bearing support the full weight of the rotor and load.  This weight coupled with any vibration will also cause smaller bearings to weaken and wear out more quickly, necessitating replacement or repair.  Utilizing stronger oversized bearings on both ends ensures that no matter how your motor is mounted, you will achieve longer operation and performance.
